The St. Louis Cardinals have not started off the 2023 season on a high note.

Through their first 23 games, they are 9-14 and sit seven games back of first place in the National League Central, a division they won by seven games last season.

A big part of their struggles has to do with the fact that the team owns a shockingly bad mark in series-opening games.

Not once this season have the Cardinals won a series opener.

They are now 0-8 in games to open a series.

On Twitter, a Cardinals fan pointed out just how poorly they have performed in series-opening games and called for their manager, Oli Marmol, to show a little more urgency.

St. Louis has also only won two series this season.

They took two out of three against the Toronto Blue Jays to open the season and did not win another series for a week.

They took two from the Colorado Rockies and split a four-game set with the surprisingly hot Pittsburgh Pirates.

St. Louis has lost every other series and currently sits in fourth place in the NL Central.

And at the center of their struggles is the fact that they have not won a series opener 23 games into the season.

The offense and the starting pitching have both been subpar, which has resulted in a whole host of problems for the Redbirds, who have not finished below the .500 mark since 2007.

However, fans have been given a painful reminder of that season so far as the team has only been above .500 once.
