The NFL’s offseason period consists of many key dates and events.

One of the key times of the offseason is voluntary OTAs, a chance for players to connect with their teammates.

While OTAs are voluntary at this stage of the offseason, many players elect to attend them, wanting to get back to work.

Insider JP Finlay has recently indicated Chase Young’s absence from the Washington Commanders‘ OTAs.

The Commanders have experienced significant turmoil in recent weeks.

Young is reportedly in talks with the team about a contract extension, but nothing has been solidified to this point.

At the same time, the Commanders are being sold to a new ownership group, a move that hasn’t been ratified by NFL owners.

A lot is going on in the Commanders’ building, including the absence of Young, Montez Sweat, and Charles Leno.

When Young came into the league, he took the world by storm.

He won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2020 and established himself as a dominant pass rusher.

While many lauded him as the next iteration of players like J.J. Watt and Aaron Donald, Young suffered a setback in 2021.

He tore his ACL during the 2021 season and only played in three games during the 2022 season.

Due to these injury concerns, the Commanders may have trepidation about Young’s status moving forward, causing a delay in contract negotiations.

While Young’s absence from OTAs is noticeable, Commanders fans shouldn’t panic.

Will Young and the Commanders be able to come up with a deal, or will he find himself on a new team to start the 2023 season?
