Earlier this month, the baseball world learned some sad news when it was revealed that legendary pitcher Vida Blue had passed away at the age of 73.
Blue pitched most of his career with the Oakland Athletics, with his best season coming in 1971.
The left-hander won 24 games, posted an ERA of 1.82, and won a Cy Young Award.
Blue also pitched with the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals.
On Twitter, the Giants made a big announcement regarding an update to their uniforms for the 2023 season.
For the remainder of the season, the #SFGiants will wear a #14 jersey patch in honor of Vida Blue’s contributions to our community and the game we all love. pic.twitter.com/lYPjod9ZEn

On the right sleeve of their jerseys, the team will wear a patch honoring Blue featuring his name and jersey number from his time in San Francisco.
Blue wore No. 14 when he pitched for the Giants.
His best season with the team came in 1978.
That year, the left-hander went 18-10 and posted an ERA of 2.79.
After four seasons in San Francisco, Blue joined the Royals.
However, he returned to the Giants in 1985 and finished out his career in San Francisco.
His patch will go just above the patch honoring Giants pitching legend Gaylord Perry, who passed away earlier in 2023.
Blue posted a career WAR of 45.1 over 17 seasons in Major League Baseball.
He also won 209 games, posted a 3.27 ERA, won an MVP, a Cy Young, and three World Series titles.
In addition, the legendary left-hander was a six-time All-Star.
The Giants have unfortunately lost two franchise legends this year, both of whom made an impact on the organization, the City of San Francisco, and the game of baseball.
