The Lakers Are Reportedly Having ‘Internal Discussions’ About Blockbuster Trade

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t had a signature name at the point guard position even before an aging Steve Nash joined Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Dwight Howard quite some time ago.

Rajon Rondo was beyond his prime when he arrived, and Russell Westbrook and D’Angelo Russell weren’t at their best in their short stint with the team, so it’s only natural to think they’ll look at an upgrade in that position.

With that in mind, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that they’re having internal discussions about trading for Trae Young.

The Atlanta Hawks star shares LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

There were several conflicting reports about Young and the Hawks dating back to last season.

From him reportedly traveling on his own and refusing to listen to coach Nate McMillan to his teammates not being exactly thrilled with his leadership, Young’s time with the Hawks could be coming to an end.

As a matter of fact, the team is reportedly considering the market for the Oklahoma product, which makes sense considering they have Dejounte Murray as a potential lead guard if he leaves.

Young isn’t — and will never be — a defensive presence, but he can put up points against elite defenders, and he’s one of the best passers and playmakers on Earth as well.

He’d take plenty of pressure off LeBron’s shoulders as a creator and could be a reliable scorer if — when — Anthony Davis is either hurt or struggling.

Nonetheless, he’s not going to come at a discount, and the Lakers may not want to give up what is needed to get him.
