The New York Mets and the baseball universe as a whole are celebrating the birthday of one of the most accomplished managers in the game today.

Buck Showalter is turning 67 on Tuesday, and the Mets went to their social media accounts to wish him a happy day.

Showalter will celebrate his birthday doing what he does best: guiding his players from the dugout.

The Mets will visit the Chicago Cubs to open a three-game series on Tuesday.

Showalter is one of the most accomplished managers in baseball today even if he hasn’t enjoyed too much postseason success.

He has a 1,677-1,601 record and a .512 winning percentage as a big-league skipper.

Yes, that comes with a mediocre 10-16 playoff record, but he has built a reputation for helping his teams contend in a short period of time.

He did it with the New York Yankees in the early-to-mid 1990s, with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the late-1990s, and with the Baltimore Orioles in the mid-2010s.

He took over the Mets last year and immediately guided them to a 101-61 record, just short of the NL East title.

Mets fans are hopeful that he can be the man who guides them to their first Fall Classic since 2015 and their first title since 1986.

Despite not playing past Triple-A, he did play the game for a long time and has vast experience from the field and from the dugout.

Perhaps most importantly, he has the love and respect of his players.

At the end of the day, that’s the biggest and most important thing.
