The New England Patriots have been a mess at the quarterback position ever since superstar Tom Brady decided to leave the team in NFL free agency in favor of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The team tried and failed to fill the void left by Brady with former NFL MVP Cam Newton and followed that up by drafting Mac Jones.
Although Jones showed some promise as he was named a Pro Bowler in his first season in New England, the sophomore campaign for the Alabama product was a disaster, so much so that the team has been rumored to want to trade him.
In the meantime, as Jones’ future with the Patriots continues to be uncertain, New England has brought in another quarterback in Trace McSorley on a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Field Yates and Jeremy Fowler.
It’s a one-year deal for McSorley. Patriots had been looking for a mobile third QB throughout free agency.

Obviously, McSorely is not considered a quarterback the Patriots are going to depend on moving forward, as he’s become a career backup in the league and has bounced around the league since being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019.
That said, the Patriots clearly need to continue to figure things out at the most important position on the field, or it could be another rough year for the storied franchise.
The Patriots have been linked to superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, but it remains to be seen whether there is any legitimacy to that rumor and if the former NFL MVP would want to come to New England and play for head coach Bill Belichick.
