With two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger walking away from the game before last season, the storied franchise of the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to bring in his successor in the form of rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett.
Although it wasn’t a great rookie season for Pickett, the young quarterback showed a lot of promise, enough for the team to want to build around him to be the long-term starter under center and make Mitchell Trubisky the team’s backup moving forward.
With the team deciding that Pickett is their guy heading into the 2023 NFL season, with Trubisky as the backup and undrafted rookie Tanner Morgan behind him, the quarterback room could use another body, and apparently, the team is going with a familiar face.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Steelers are bringing back Mason Rudolph, expected initially to be Roethlisberger’s successor in Pittsburgh.

With a second-year quarterback leading the way, the Steelers will need some insurance behind Pickett, especially if the team intends to be a playoff contender in the AFC.
Bringing back Rudolph to join Pickett, Trubisky, and Morgan is a smart move, as he knows the system as well as anyone, and that could come in handy if injuries become an issue in 2023.
The AFC North will be a tough division in 2023 with the Cleveland Browns hoping to get a refreshed Deshaun Watson, the Cincinnati Bengals aspirating to be Super Bowl champions, and the Baltimore Ravens looking to get back to form with Lamar Jackson recently signing a new deal.
In 17 games played in the NFL, Rudolph has thrown for 2,366 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
