In the midst of all the struggles the New York Yankees have endured over the past several weeks, a bright spot has emerged.

Following their devastating loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night, the team sent outfielder Franchy Cordero down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

His replacement serves as a familiar and friendly face for Yankee fans.

Outfielder Harrison Bader, who has been on the injured list with a left oblique strain, has been activated to make his 2023 season debut on Tuesday against the Guardians.

The Yankees announced the news of their most recent transaction on Twitter.

Bader’s return comes at a great time for the Yankees, who are now without key sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge.

Judge was placed on the injured list with a hip strain on Monday.

Bader was acquired by the Yankees at last year’s trade deadline in the deal that sent left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The speedy outfielder was one of five Cardinals to win a Gold Glove in 2021, where he joined teammates Paul Goldschmidt, Tommy Edman, Nolan Arenado, and Tyler O’Neill.

Bader was on the injured list with plantar fasciitis when he was first acquired by the Yankees.

During the postseason, Bader hit for a .333 average and popped five home runs in 30 at-bats as New York reached the ALCS.

But with so many injuries plaguing the Yankees at this moment, the return of Bader comes at a perfect time.

New York currently holds a 15-15 record at the bottom of the AL East while 8.5 games back of the first-place Tampa Bay Rays.
