SquareX Launches a USD 25,000 Bug Bounty Programme, Inviting Global Hackers to Test and Strengthen Its Security Product

SINGAPORE 7th July, 2023 — SquareX is developing a browser-based cyber security software to protect consumers online, led by serial cybersecurity entrepreneur Vivek Ramachandran. SquareX received a seed round of USD 6 million from Sequoia Capital South East Asia in May 2023 and is now planning to launch the product globally.

Americans have suffered enormous financial losses in recent years as a result of online scams and hacking. As technology advances and the digital landscape develops, cybercrime is projected to rise in the United States and around the world. However, the market’s traditional cybersecurity goods, such as antivirus software, anti-malware tools, and VPN solutions, have seen little innovation in addressing emerging threats. Furthermore, they frequently impede consumer productivity by restricting access to files, websites, and resources, instilling fear in consumers, and driving them to uninstall them, leaving users even more vulnerable to attacks.

Recognising the need for a new and successful strategy to restoring customer trust in online safety, SquareX is devoted to challenge the status quo of traditional cybersecurity products by developing a solution from the ground up, purpose-built to combat today’s threats.

Unlike traditional security firms, which rely on hackers to discover and report security flaws, SquareX is taking a unique approach by launching a Bug Bounty programme prior to the product’s formal debut. This programme enables hackers, security researchers, and the general public to test and identify any security flaws, showcasing SquareX’s commitment to real-world warfare testing.

The Bug Bounty programme will last six weeks, from Thursday, June 15, 2023 until Thursday, July 27, 2023. During this time, bug bounty seekers are urged to assist in the development, battle-testing, and hardening of the product. SquareX is giving up to $25,000 in incentives for effectively discovering and reporting vulnerabilities.

“SquareX has a strong research and hacking culture, with multiple team members previously discovering security vulnerabilities and disclosing them at top security conferences,” said Vivek Ramachandran, Founder of SquareX. “We invite the global hacker community to take part in this Bug Bounty programme and assist us in identifying vulnerabilities.” I’m hoping that by doing so, we’ll be able to develop a world-class cybersecurity product that people can use to feel safe online.”

SquareX hopes to generate trust by allowing its product to be carefully evaluated by hackers all over the world. Trust is a critical aspect in convincing customers to choose their solution. This, perhaps, will encourage more consumer-focused businesses to follow suit.

Concerning the Bug Bounty Programme:

The Bug Bounty Programme will begin on Thursday, June 15, 2023 and will last six weeks, finishing on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Interested parties can discover more information, including guidelines, scope, and rules, on the Bug Bounty Program’s website: https://malware.rip/.
